The design of a Skimboards somehow resembles that to the surfboards. As compared to the surfboards they are about half the length & thickness and slightly broader. Skimboards do not have skegs or fins as the bottom of the boards. Skimboards are usually made out of fiberglass or carbon fiber and high density foam which serves as a foundation. Since Skimboards are less stable they require much more practice for control.

As for the size of the Skimboards, smaller sized Skimboards allow you to reach faster to the waves and provides the best turning ability. While the bigger Skimboards turn slower but go faster. Thus pro riders prefer larger boards which allow them to reach bigger waves faster and charge down the line.
